Van Gogh Concept Site | Flash Web Design

A conceptual project for a Flash web design unit in University.
The otherwise open brief had but two stipulations: that the site be created entirely using Flash coding and be educational. I therefore elected to create a site geared towards school children (ages 9-12 or so) - detailing the life, times and works of the artist Vincent Van Gogh.

While Flash based websites in today's web design culture are increasedly obsolete, this project was received successfully and has enough artistic merit to warrant sharing it now. Enjoy:
Bold colours and parodied paintings of Van Gogh's own words - the home page featured Van Gogh's "Bedroom in Arles" with roll-over facts scattered like easter eggs through various portions of the image.
The use of large blocky font was intentional, to allow for easy reading along the easy horizontal scrolling web design. This page featured "Vincent's Chair with His Pipe".
All paintings were rendered with reference in Photoshop.

The gallery was created with a simple expanding shadowbox to display each piece - intending to be as "fuss free" as possible.
The featured parodied image is of Van Gogh's "Still Life - Vase with Fifteen Sunflowers"
"Starry Night Over the Rhone" becomes a part of the layout of this page.
featuring Van Gogh's "The Mulberry Tree" with a list of dot point facts for easy scrolling. However simplistic the layout and concept, the idea was simple - that the viewer takes with them some new bites of knowledge, engaged by the "chunky" mood of the site and the ordinarily "clumsy" design aesthetic.
"Skull" by Vincent Van Gogh. Perceived as a little dark for a site geared to school children, however such was the life of the artist himself.
"Still Life - Vase with Irises" by Van gogh, coupled with outgoing links to the references used for the project.

The playful collection of repainted images were an overall success, and my special salute to an inspirational artist's life and words and peers were educated. I look to combine the traditional paint feel to other web design project sites in future.
